Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail Prelimary Patch Notes

It’s almost time, Final Fantasy XIV gang. In less than 12 hours, Square Enix will be bringing the servers down and then it’s just a two-day wait before we can begin downloading Dawntrail. During downtime, on June 27 at 3:00 am Pacific time, Yoshi-P will do the full reading of the patch notes. Until then, we have the preliminary patch notes.

While there’s a lot of stuff in these notes we’ve heard about before, there are some finer details, and we have several shiny new pictures to look at. There are new images of the two major cities, Tuliyollal and Solution Nine, as well as the rest of the regions. Urqopacha looks to have a very high mountain peak and Heritage Found looks kind of creepy. The new aetherites are pretty, too.

Of course, this being an MMORPG, there are new quests to deal with. As always, we’ll pick up where we left off on the MSQ. No, they didn’t tell us the name or location of that quest. There are new role quests for both DoW/M and DoH/L jobs. Just like last time, we’re looking at a quest line for each role.

Of course, there are job quests for the Viper and Pictomancer. If you’re looking to be all artsy, you’ll need to head to Gridania to begin that story. The Viper’s first quest can be found in Ul’dah.

The notes also include several quality-of-life changes – like the ability to hide other players when talking to quest-related NPCs. A new visual change allows players to more easily see if they’re about to be spotted by characters they’re following. Text input has been fixed so that players don’t have to worry about case sensitivity when typing in required phrases. Players now have more control over text auto-advance settings.

The bulk of the notes beyond that consists of, “We’ve added more of the things you expect and adjusted the old content related to those things”, fates, treasure hunts, grand companies, etc. That means more rewards and other goodies too. There are some (but not all) images of housing items, minions, mounts, hair, gear, and the like.

Speaking of housing, the notes also include details of how players wanting to bar others from their house can go about that. Keep in mind that you can only lock someone out of your house and yard for 10 days at a time.
