Final Fantasy XIV's Housing Issue To Be Patched Monday May 16
Looks like some people may get their plot for free.
Final Fantasy XIV players who have been waiting in limbo to see if they perhaps might get the house they bid on don’t have much longer to wait to find out. According to a new post from Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida, players can expect results from the last lottery on Monday, May 16. Remember, this isn’t the beginning of a new lottery, but the delayed results from the last one and – whatever happens – the result of the devs working to figure out what caused the problems, fix them, and restore data so a proper lottery between the people who originally bid can take place.
At this point, all the steps have been completed but one. That would be the maintenance occurring on May 16. If everything goes well – and they seem pretty confident it will – this will fix the errors and properly display lottery results for the plots that were caught up in the error. At the same time, the suspension of plot purchases and relocations will be lifted.
Once everything is up and running, players will have until 7:59 am Pacific on May 26 to claim their plots. If they don’t do it by then, they’re going to be screwed as the new cycle will begin the minute the clock hits 8:00 am Pacific time that same day.
The good news – this time – is that if players do fail to claim their house by that time, it’s pretty unlikely they’ll lose half their deposit, as it was probably already refunded as part of the glitched lottery process. This also means one other thing: those that end up winning the plot they bid on may get their plot for free. As it turns out, Square Enix has no plans to roll back the system and force the gil that was refunded as part of the error back into the lottery system. Instead, they’re going to allow players to voluntarily return their deposits. According to the post, the developers feel that the issues have caused enough stress and frustration. It seems they would, however, like to have that gil, so players who are willing to will be able to visit an NPC to turn it over – should they want to.
