Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Patch Notes Detail Everything You Need To Know Before Friday's Launch
There's also a handy guide for navigating with a controller for PlayStation users.
The early access period for the Endwalker expansion for Final Fantasy XIV goes live in the early a.m. Friday hours for North American audiences -- theoretically at 1 a.m. Pacific, though server congestion issues could delay that for some players -- and Square Enix has prepared the preliminary patch notes for its launch and the 6.0 patch that arrives with it. Reading through them all might take you up to that launch time.
For the most part, the topics covered within are features that FFXIV players should already be aware of: new areas, quests, leves, FATEs, dungeons, items, a new housing district, new level cap (90), new jobs (reaper and sage), and of course, the option to create male viera. There are also new prizes up for grabs and new Triple Triad cards and opponents in the Manderville Gold Saucer, which is where I spend most of my time when I play, so that's the big news from my point of view. What's a Main Story Quest?
(Also, belts are going away. Is it still really Final Fantasy without belts?)
Some of the additions you might not be aware of were announced in a blog post yesterday. These include the ability to do group poses during performance actions, "follower" NPCs that can be set as targets, and replayable transformation and role-playing actions. Square Enix is also doing a series of illustrations to count down to the expansion's launch, which officially takes place in six days, on December 7.

Finally, if you're a PlayStation FFXIV-er, Sony's got a handy guide on how to set up and optimize your gameplay experience using a controller. The fact that it needs a whole paragraph to describe how to target enemies, which I can describe how to do with a keyboard by using two words ("Press Tab") makes me amazed that anyone can play the game with a controller, but more power to you if you're one of those skilled individuals.
