Fear Not, Final Fantasy XI Will Not Be Shutting Down Anytime Soon
Instead, players can look forward to the new addition of Prime Weapons.
May 16 marked Final Fantasy XI’s 20th anniversary, a momentous occasion for any game, but with the weight of 20 years, some players wondered what the future would hold. Originally, the MMORPG’s director, Yoji Fujito, addressed concerns that the game might shut down in 2022. Thankfully, Fujito revealed that FFXI wouldn't be shutting down “anytime soon,” and in addition, the producer, Akihiko Matsui, mentioned that the higher-ups at the company are encouraging the team to continue working on FFXI, which is great news.
Continuing on, also in the interview by Famitsu (special thanks to ryokutya) with Yoji Fujito, the director discussed the upcoming Prime Weapon. Fujito explained that users will be able to obtain the weapons through progression in the story, but it is not yet revealed when the devs will introduce the Prime Weapons into the game.
