Fantastic Pixel Castle Sharing The Dev Process And Screenshots For MMO "Ghost" Is Good Game Dev Education
They’d like to remind everyone that this is just the beginning.
Fantastic Pixel Castle wasn’t lying when they said they were going to be involving would-be players in the development process of Project Ghost very early on. Today, they dropped a post on the company blog detailing what they’ve been doing so far. It focuses on their first milestone – which is really several smaller milestones, but it’s all things that needed to be done together to really get things rolling. For anyone pondering a career in game development, or those who just like knowing how things are made, it seems like FPC is going to make things fairly educational.
There’s a good bit in the post outlining how the devs are hoping the plan to “partner with players” will work, as well as what players can expect from the process. As Ghostcrawler has stated on his Twitter a few times, it’s a work in progress so it’s gonna be “ugly” for a while. I think as most fans of video games should know by now, the game that’s finally made may have nothing of what it started with.
We know we will see "looks like ass" replies and we're fine with that. It turns out making final production art while you are still rapidly iterating is not efficient
As always, if you want to tune out until the game is in final production, totally cool with us

For now, though, the game has two classes: “fireball” and “sword”. It has functional gameplay – the kind you would expect from an MMORPG, and the Blue Zone system they’ve talked about before is working. There’s not a lot in there yet, so visiting Blue Zones probably wouldn’t be that exciting.
The team has also been busy building out the game’s narrative and working on concept art. Both of which you can find out about in more detail via the post. Of course, they also explained how to offer your opinions and insight. Just…maybe hold off on critiquing the game assets until they’re actually using their own. It wouldn’t help much right now anyway. It’s honestly probably too early for even a “Hey, that looks neat.” Although, some of the concept art is pretty cool.
