It’s all still early days stuff.

Ghost Future Plans

Fantastic Pixel Castle may still be in the early days of their project "Ghost", but that doesn’t keep them out of the end-of-the-year tradition of doing a wrap-up letter that also looks forward, into the new year. It’s a shorter letter than most, but as they’re still in the early days of their first MMORPG's production, they don’t have stats to make infographics out of or a list of content releases to go through.

Instead, they’ve simply thanked everyone for their excitement – and also for understanding what talking about Ghost at all while still in early production means. (It means we’ll see it go through a lot of changes before the final product drops.)

The rest of the post focuses on the coming year, but is still equally vague – mostly because they’re still working things out. It does focus on some specific things: player-owned “Blue Zones”, classes and combat, and art.

All of these are at some level of prototyping. They have ideas about how they’d like things to work, but at this stage it’s experimental. With blue zones, the devs will be experimenting with ways to make them distinct while accounting for player preferences. In the cases of classes and combat, they’ll be spending a lot of time working on and testing them in order to modernize them. Finally, in the area of art, they’ll be focusing on determining the art style and building out the world in order to give it a clear identity.

The letter also promises that the dev team will be working on ways to communicate with players more directly in the coming year, so that’s something to look forward to as well.
