F2P Madden Alternative "Maximum Football" Will Finally See A PC Early Access This November
This one has been a long time coming and I'm very interested in how well it does.
Sure it doesn't have either of the NFL or NCAA licenses, but when it comes to video game football (the American variety, of course), players have been starved for anything that wasn't EA's Madden franchise for a long time now. I've personally been watching Maximum Football for a while now. We don't write about it much as the additions and updates from the team at Maximum Entertainment are usually very short and sweet, but that doesn't mean we aren't interested.
Maximum Football did have a June beta, but I wasn't lucky enough to get onto the gridiron so I've had to just watch from afar. That won't be the case soon as the sports games will be headed to a PC early access on November 7th via Steam. Sorry, console players, you'll still have to wait a bit. Maximum Entertainment wants to make sure the game is as ready and polished as it can be before launch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Interestingly, Maximum Football will be free-to-play. That's been the plan from the start and continues to be true to this day. Single-player and multiplayer games will be available to F2P players, so no limitations there. We'll need to wait a bit to see if F2P players have other limitations and we'll give the cash shop the challenge flag once early access kicks off.
When early access drops, players will have access to the following modes:
- Exhibition Mode
- Offline vs. AI - (1 vs. 1)
- Multiplayer - (1 vs. 1)
- Spectate (AI vs. AI)
- Dynasty Mode (Single player college football)
- Practice Mode
- Player Customization System
- Maximum Pro League
Future modes will include a Pro Football Franchise mode and a Career mode, among other future-planned modes. That Dynasty Mode above is actually getting a full reveal of its own tomorrow so I'll be sure to add links here once that's up.
Seeing Maximum Football rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 is great and the video below showcases the improvements made over the last few years.
I can't wait to take things for a test 90-yard drive.
