F2P CCG Causa, Voices Of The Dusk Will Make You Sacrifice Cards And Bring Them Back Later
Set in an "exotic and grim fantasy world," Causa, Voices of the Dusk is an upcoming free-to-play collectible card game from Chilean developer Niebla Games. I know, you're probably saying to yourself "Not another CCG!" but Causa has some interesting mechanics going for it, at least to judge by some of the material we've seen. Also, it looks pretty.
As the trailer for the game starts, "The world is being devoured by the dusk of times," and so death and rebirth play a prominent role in Causa. Sacrificing cards feeds your resources, but you can bring them back to greater effects. You'll refill your hand every turn, so early losses won't cripple you, and your leader has a "unique set of powerful skills to change the course of the game," which at least sounds more significant than typical reusable "hero powers" as seen in other games.
(Part of that "looking pretty" part is that, rather than being a fixed image, your leader's portrait actually has some idle animations, such as turning their head or blinking. It's a small point, to be sure, but it's a nice touch that I'm surprised more games haven't adopted.)
In addition to standard PvP matches, you can also engage in a single-player campaign mode that utilizes a drafting mechanic.
Causa will launch into early access on Steam May 26. It will include cross-platform play between PC, consoles, and mobile. Prior to launch, you can check out a streaming event on the official Causa Twitch channel on May 21 or learn more about the game on the Causa website.
