Exploration, Creature Design, And Terraforming: Get A New Look At Snail Games' Upcoming "For The Stars" Space Survival MMO Adventure
The team at Snail shows off via the game's first dev diary video.
I haven't written about anything Snail Games related in quite some time. They've really only come up lately in articles on the Ark seires of games and even then it's only been as the publisher. I feel like they used to have their name all over the MMO landscape with titles like Age of Wushu, Black Gold Online, and a few mobile titles here and there. Some of those titles are still around but hear little news and others are totally gone these days. Obviously Snail has a number of single player titles out there, but we generally don't cover them since they don't include multiplayer.
Imagine my surprise today when I received new news from the team about an upcoming survival MMO called "For the Stars." I reported on the game about 4 months ago when Snail first revealed their plans for some 4x action in a survival shell, and today we get to see some new details in a dev video from the team.
The first dev diary video catches up with Game Director Primus Majda, Lead Designers Matt Kohl and Calix Reneau, and Art Director Andrew Swihart and examines some of the character art in For the Stars, talks a bit about the procedural generation of planets in the game, and we get a look at a nice mix of early gameplay and some concept art.
The team talks about exploration, building, and even terraforming planets (or obliterating planets) to your liking. Hmm, seems similar to another game we've been reporting on a bit lately, should be some interesting competition.
“For The Stars has been our dream project for years, and we’re excited to be able to publicly show off the process of what we’re making,” said Primus Majda, Game Director on For the Stars. “Most of all, we’re excited to see how it all comes together for players when they embark upon their own cosmic voyage when For the Stars launches.”
While there's still no release date, For the Stars now has a Steam page and will also be releasing on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Yes, the game will be multiplayer.
