Eville Open Beta

Back in November, we told you about a new take on the whole social deduction genre that expands on the gameplay -- not by asking players to do general tasks while waiting to solve murders that have already happened, but by having the players pre-emptively do what they can to prevent the murders from happening in the first place. Of course, if someone is still murdered anyway, those left living still have to figure out who the killer is.

Versus Evil’s Eville takes place in a village where everyone has a job – most of which are important to keep the populace from being offed by the killer lurking in their midst. These include everything from setting traps for the killers to being able to talk to the dead. (There’s also a slanderer, though I’m not sure who that benefits. It could actually work in favor of the killer.) And, if you’re wondering how people are actually able to take preventative measures while trying to avoid the killer, the game has a day-night cycle that impacts when evil deeds may be done.

If this sounds interesting and you’d like to check the game out, we've got good news. Versus Evil is running an open beta weekend beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pacific. The test period runs until January 23 and can be accessed via Steam. No official date has been set yet for the launch, but the developer did reveal that early access will come to Steam some time this year.
