Everything Else Has A "Classic" Mode, So Now Overwatch 2 Is Getting One That Includes 6v6
Don't expect EVERYTHING, like loot boxes, to return.
Tomorrow, November 12th, marks a literal return to form for Overwatch 2 as the team at Blizzard is dropping an "Overwatch: Classic" mode that'll be available until December 2nd. Hey, almost every other MMO has a classic version, so why can't one of the largest hero-shooters on the planet?
Before we get any deeper into the plans, right from the rip: yes, 6v6 will be an option. However, this event is separate from the team's full 6v6 plans.
The event isn't JUST about bringing back some 6v6 action like the team has discussed previously, though. We're literally headed all the back to 2016/2017, complete with the twelve original maps dropped in Overwatch 1.0, the original 4 game modes (Assault, Escort, Hybrid, and Control), and the first 21 heroes the game released. On the hero front, this will include certain classic metas like the "Moth Meta of 2017" and the "all tanks" gameplay options should your team really want to relive some frontline defense gameplay.
You'll probably want to brush up on the original kits each hero sported back in the day as none of the updates or changes made after the original launch will be included here. Also, expect your Ultimate to power up a bit faster than they do in the current version Overwatch 2. Maps, on the other hand, will still feature some of the reworks they've received in Overwatch 2.
You will not have to add a new client or anything to take part in the Classic event. Everything will be contained in the existing client.
Don't expect other "OG features" like loot boxes to come back, this event focuses on heroes, maps, and modes.
If you like the mode, make sure to let Blizzard know as the event isn't planned to be a one-time thing, but player feedback will dictate if the event actually returns in the future.
