EverQuest 2 Players Up In Arms Again Over Latest Cash Shop Addition

EverQuest 2 players aren't all that happy with developer Daybreak at the moment, and judging by what's being said on the forums, it's hard to blame them. You see, Daybreak recently announced the addition of Darkpaw Hero Adventuring Boosts to the cash shop. A character boost on its own is pretty standard in MMORPGs these days, heck, I've used them in quite a few games. The problem the players have comes with the currencies also included in the boost package.

Of particular note are the Chrono currency and the Status consumables. Players are noting how Daybreak has recently severely nerfed the amount of the Chrono currency you can get by simply playing the game, and how grindy and inefficient it is to earn Status through gameplay. Players are saying that the only predictable way to now get Status and Chrono currency is through buying the Hero Adventuring Boosts. Cries of pay-to-win echo across the forums.

Probably the best explanation of it all comes in this forum post on the EverQuest 2 forums. This post makes a call back to the pay-to-win cries of the players from last year. During that time, Daybreak was selling loot unlocks that would bypass weekly raid lockouts. Now they seem to be selling not just level progression, but currency and status progression as well in a way that simply isn't reasonably obtainable by playing the game according to its playerbase.

While from the outside looking in, it doesn't seem as pay-to-win as last year's EverQuest 2 debacle, it is easy to see why players are upset and concerned. This is, after all, the second time EQ2 has tried to sell them something to bypass in-game limits set by the developers themselves.

As of this writing, Daybreak hasn't responded to any of the concerns of the forums, so we'll have to wait and see if they continue to turn a deaf ear to the concerns of their players. Most are just asking for the Chrono currency and Status to be more readily available to earn in-game. That doesn't sound like an unreasonable request to me.

Thanks to multiple MMOBombers who reached out to us, with a special nod to EM.
