Eve Online Featured At Excel World Championship 2023 Finals, Yes, That's A Thing
Finalists used Eve Online’s Excel Add-in to test their skills.
I will admit that it never occurred to me that a data management competition existed. I certainly wasn’t aware that the Microsoft Excel World Championships were a thing. That said, considering Eve Online has been jokingly (or maybe not so jokingly) referred to as “spreadsheets in space”, finding out that the game is part of the championship event isn’t nearly as surprising as finding out about the event itself.
The 2023 Championships took place this past weekend in Las Vegas. During the event, contestants flexed their Excel skills for a chance at the championship title. Part of the test of their abilities was using the MMORPG’s free Excel Add-in to handle a case study created by Eve Partner Oz.
For those not familiar, the Eve Online Excel add-in was introduced to make it easier for players to track progress and strategize. That’s something most players were doing anyway, but this makes things a bit more streamlined.
If any of you are interested in watching the event, which was broadcast live on ESPN3, you can find the VOD below.
