EVE Online Developer CCP Games CEO Believes The Blockchain Will Enhance Gaming
There is still support for integrating this technology with MMOs.
Can the infamous blockchain actually enhance gaming?
Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of EVE Online developer CCP Games, gave his answer to this question in an interview during Korea Blockchain Week. The discussion centered around the integration of blockchain technology into the gaming industry, specifically its potential to enhance decentralized development. He said that blockchain creates a more inclusive business model for gaming by allowing players to actively contribute to the game's development and business model.
According to Pétursson, there’s substantial growth happening: a $40 million funding round six months ago, and playtesting has garnered positive feedback.
The interview also touches upon the compatibility of blockchain technology with certain game genres, particularly MMOs. He suggests that these games, where player actions significantly shape the game world and its economy, align well with blockchain's capabilities.
Pétursson believes mainstream adoption of blockchain is possible through providing a compelling gaming experience rather than focusing too much on the underlying technology.
