Epic Holding #FreeFortnite Cup Because Of The Apple Battle
Epic Games is really leaning into this whole fight with Apple (and Google but more Apple) thing. In fact, last night, they expanded on the Bad Apple character previously seen in the 1984-themed Fortnite video and announced the #FreeFortnite Cup. The idea behind the event -- which takes place August 23 -- is to give players across all platforms one last hurrah, before those on iOS are left behind with the Chapter 2 - Season One update.
During this event, players will have the chance to win a selection of prizes including the Tart Tycoon Oufit (that's the apple head dressed like Steve Jobs), and an IRL Free Fortnite cap featuring a llama logo designed to bring the old Apple logo to mind. The company is also giving away 1,200 gaming hardware prizes, including phones, consoles, and PCs. (Just in case you're wondering... No, the phones are not iPhones. They're Samsung Galaxy phones.)
Of course, Epic does point out that the iPhone thing doesn't have to be the end, and encourages players to hop onto one of the other platforms the game is available on. But, that doesn't mean they don't want players to give Apple grief about the whole thing. That's what the #FreeFortnite hashtag is for.
