Epic Games Recaps First Fortnite Alpha
If you're one of the lucky few who got their grubby little hands on Fortnite during its first alpha test... well, you probably still can't talk about it. NDAs are such a drag.
There's nothing stopping the guys at Epic Games from talking about it, though, and today they posted a blog entry detailing the hijinks and low points of the first alpha, including some ridiculous fortress builds. Take a look at the post to see some of the crazy things people came up with. Most of the post talks about procedural things, like expanding the hours of the alpha or UI improvements.
Here's one thing I thought about, oddly for the first time, upon seeing some of those forts players constructed: How "good" will the AI be to understand how to overcome the kinds of obstacles players put in front of them? With a seemingly limitless array of choices for how to fortify, that's going to be key. If the monsters are good enough to handle intricate fortifications, they might be too much for beginning players to handle, but if they're too weak, advanced fort-builders will have it too easy. It's a difficult balance that games with more static playing fields don't have to deal with, and it'll be interesting to see how Epic Games tweaks things so that they're just right.
There's still time to get into the next alpha, so hop on over to the site to sign up!
