Epic Games Announces Fortnite Crossover With Really Expensive Clothing Company
Now you too can purchase a denim jacket with the Fortnite logo on the back for the price of a computer.
When you log in to Fortnite today, you’re going to find something new: specifically digital fashions created as part of a real-world/virtual crossover event with luxury fashion house Balenciaga. In-game, the cross-over consists of sprays, outfits, skins, weapons, and some content in the Featured hub that includes a virtual Balenciaga store. Among the gear on the list are a “Speed Sneaker” pickaxe and a Parasail Purse glider.
In the real world, the crossover looks a bit different. It’s mostly a Fortnite-themed line of clothing in the Balenciaga store. You’re probably gonna need a bit more cash in your wallet for these items, though. The least expensive item is a $630 pair of sunglasses…that are sold out at the moment. But if you’ve got the cash and really want to splurge, maybe the $2,450 pair of shiny silver stilettos with witchy toes will go on your shopping list. It should be noted that one of the items, the Shady Doggo Outfit (modeled by the pug in the picture above) is available as a $725 hoodie, in white or black, in Balenciaga’s real-world store.
Of course, this isn't the first of these kinds of partnerships we've come across. We all know half of playing online games is playing dress-up, and it's kinda neat to take it into the real world. That's what cosplay is for. I'm just personally not sure that spending over a grand on a denim jacket has the same impact.
