eFootball To Add Full Rosters Of Major League Soccer Teams
Deal is with MLS Players Association; no deal yet with league.
eFootball has a bunch of new players to go with its new name. Earlier this week, Konami and the Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA) announced that the full rosters of the 27 MLS teams will appear in the soon-to-be free-to-play sports title, while also anointing 11 of its star players as “ambassadors” for the game.
The multiyear deal will see all names, numbers, images, and player likenesses for the North American soccer league appear in eFootball. The 11 ambassadors for the game include some of the league's biggest stars, including Jonathan Dos Santos, Josef Martinez, and Eduard Atuesta.
Previous versions of Pro Evolution Soccer, the game which will become eFootball, included teams and players from various European football leagues, such as FC Barcelona and Manchester United.
It's worth noting, however, that today's deal is with the MLS Players Association, not the league itself. That means that MLS team names, uniforms, logos, stadiums, and so forth are not yet a part of eFootball. Maybe that's just a case of crossing t's and dotting i's, or maybe Konami and the league have some financial hurdles they need to overcome to work out a proper partnership – if one is forthcoming at all.
