Deforestation: Enter The Eterlands, A Pretty New MOBA
So there's another MOBA coming out. Surprise!
But if the announcement trailer released this week during E3 is any indication, Eterlands is bringing more to the table than just another batch of lanes and towers.
First of all, you can't help but be impressed by the graphical quality, both in the environments, which change based on weather and time of day, and in the animations and particle/physics effects. But it's not just for looks. The game promises "fully destructible environments," offering strategic options like destroying a bridge to make passage impossible and breaking a dam to flood part of the map.
The combat itself sounds rather hardcore, with little room for error. As stated on the website:
Imagine a game where a huge punch can really break bones leaving no chance to survive, where a superhot magic plasma annihilates everything what it touches including the ground itself. If someone gets a huge hit, their body flies away knocking over other characters and minions. Arrows have real deadly wounds if they hit flesh. You always have to be very cautious because life and death is only separated by one wrong decision. You need to be a real team player to survive on the battleground.
Eterlands doesn't look like your run-of-the-mill MOBA, but we'll have to see if it can deliver on its lofty promises and get a foothold in the ultra-competitive MOBA market.
