Dota 2's Crownfall Event Has Been Running Since April, But Apparently People Need Some Extra Time. Valve Obliges
The new feature gets a few extra weeks if you have rewards you need to earn.
In April of last year, Dota 2 kicked of the "Crownfall" event. To call it an "event" though may be selling it a bit short. Crownfall is what Valve called a "new way of telling stories, offering rewards, and making it more fun to win every game of Dota." Crownfall was also made free to all of the MOBA's players.
The basic idea was to overlay a world map with locations on it that offered story bits, rewards, side quests, and more. Each location was unlocked using tokens you would earn through playing normal Dota 2 matches. The event also offered a number of minigames like fishing. Crownfall has mostly been received positively, even if it is just kind of an expanded cavern crawl. Making it free certainly helps.
Over the following months, new Acts for the story were added as were additional rewards.
Everything was slated to come to an end today, January 15th. However, Valve says they've been told by many (including cats on the internet) that they need more time to finish up and get their final rewards. Valve is happy to oblige and the new end date for Crownfall is February 6th. Now you have 3 more weeks to finish up. The team promises Crownfall will end on that date, so don't expect any more extensions.
This extension doesn't extend to the Crownfall Store, though. The sales going on there are over. You can still grab items from it, but they are back to their normal prices unless you have Crownfall Coins you still need to use.
Even though the event is still running, today's update did add a "curtain call" video that you should check out. If you click "Play Credits" on the menu, you'll be treated to a video from the team thanking everyone involved with Crownfall's creation, some new music, and a few "surprises."
