Doctor Who Invades Fortnite, In A Kinda Unofficial Way
This isn’t a crossover event, but Epic is a little involved.
Epic Games' Fortnite is known for crossover events featuring people and IPs that aren’t exactly video game-centric, and at this point it’s seen its fair share of extraterrestrial activity. Given that, it probably shouldn’t be a shock for anyone to discover that the latest IP to make it into the game is the nearly 60-year-old sci-fi juggernaut Doctor Who. What IS surprising is that it’s...not exactly official?
Yesterday, BBC Studios announced their very own event in Fortnite Creative. Unlike other crossover events, this one won’t be taking place within the game’s main content. They’ve made that very clear, stating that the event is “not sponsored, endorsed, or administered by Epic Games Inc.” Instead, players will need to use a special item code to explore five different islands designed to resemble well-known locations in the Doctor Who universe. These include the Kerblam warehouse, a ship infested by a rogue Pting, Gallifrey, and more. Of course, the TARDIS is there as well, and in need of repair. Beyond that, it looks like there’s also a museum area of sorts where players can check out artifacts like K-9 and the Doctors’ various costumes.
To access the content, players will need to use Island Code: 3610-1396-4646. Once there, they’ll find themselves at a TARDIS landing site where they will need to begin collecting Dynamorphic Generator Crystals to repair the ship. Of course, there will be rewards for their efforts. In fact, completing the map unlocks a spray design in the game – which might seem a little weird considering this is not an official collaboration. Another thing to note is that while the TARDIS is in the adventure, The Doctor is not, so players are going to have to manage this on their own.
