Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen Arrives Today...But Expect To Be Waiting In Line To Play
Over a million pre-orders will do that to a game.
Here we are! Today Guardians everywhere can get their first taste of Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen update. The expansion is available on all platforms and is the first part of the game’s final trilogy – the Light & Darkness Saga – in which players are finally able to seek out the Hive god, Savathûn, and fight to take the Light back. This will mean a trip into the Witch Queen’s lair, the Throne World, where players will have to defeat her minions before reaching her.
Today’s update also means the arrival of the game’s latest round of Seasonal content, Season of the Risen. The new season begins today, teaming players up with the Cabal empress, Caiatl, as she tries to stop the Witch Queen. Included in this round of season content are a new PsiOps Battleground, a new Seasonal Artifact, and a new Exotic quest – among other things.
Of course, as excited as players are for the update, they will need to take into account that others are as well. That’s why Bungie has warned players to expect a queue. Any Destiny 2 fan who follows the game’s development team likely already knows this, but it’s been pointed out a few times that more than a million people pre-ordered the game and the team expects there to be queues. Honestly, it’s a multiplayer game expansion for a popular IP. It’s best to always expect queues.
We will say this many, many times before launch:
Prepare for a queue.
Yes, we have time to stress test our servers and prepare them for the thundering herd of Guardians signing in to challenge Savathûn, but seriously…
There are a lot of you. https://t.co/vuP7OfpAxy
