Destiny 2 Has Disabled Text Chat After “Text” String Causes Players' Games To Break
Bungie is currently working on the problem.
Over the weekend some Destiny 2 players had their games disrupted by a text exploit–a copy and paste of a “Text” string–that would ultimately result in the receiving player’s game to crash and reward the opponent with a win-by-default. The fast acting community quickly reacted with counter measures of turning off all chat functionality. Soon after, Bungie responded to the call by taking down text chat all together.
“We have temporarily disabled text chat on all platforms in Destiny 2 while we investigate an issue causing Weasel errors.” Bungie’s help specified in a Twitter posted on July 31. However, today at 10:00 AM PDT, Destiny 2 will be undergoing background maintenance. While no downtime is expected, and the original maintenance was to help prepare for the Hotfix 4.1.5.2 releasing on August 2, perhaps the text exploit will be fixed at this time as well.
