Apex Legends 2-0

EA’s not entirely happy with the money being made from Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale, Apex Legends, according to a report on IGN. The news came via a financial call that noted Apex Legends’ revenue is down despite performing more or less as expected – and despite the fact that it has millions of players.

When asked about it, EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated that the company had been trying out things to fix the game’s financial trajectory. He also discussed how the company would like to continue to support the players, mentioning things like quality-of-life and anti-cheat. Unfortunately, the things they’ve tried haven’t had the results they want.

The solution is a major update to the game Wilson is billing as "Apex Legends 2.0." The way he described it, it sounds like it will likely be a new version of the game altogether – particularly since a key concern is not dropping it at the same time as the next Battlefield game. It could also end up being a "mode" addition to the existing product like Warzone was to Call of Duty. While Battlefield will come out before April 2026, they’re planning on the updated Apex Legends arriving sometime before March 2027.

In the meantime, players have the Takeover update to look forward to later this month. The developers dropped a video with more information on the update earlier today.
