Dead By Daylight Devs To Remove Leatherface Masks Following Racist Harassment
"We will not tolerate hateful activity" and "we absolutely condemn this behaviour."
Dead By Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive will be removing the ability for killer Leatherface to wear masks made of the faces of four of the game's survivors in an upcoming patch. While thematically accurate for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre's antagonist, one of the masks he could wear in the game had the face of a Black woman. That led some Leatherface players to use it as a means of targeted racist harassment, a practice Behaviour said it "absolutely condemn[s]."
Owners of the Leatherface, a.k.a. the Cannibal, DLC will receive 6,000 Iridescent Shards when the masks are removed in an upcoming Mid-Chapter update. "We will not tolerate hateful activity and will continue to take every step necessary to protect the community," Behaviour said.
Also mentioned in this week's gameplay update: Grade rewards will be increased when the new season kicks off on January 13, and a bunch of add-on updates will be implemented in the Mid-Chapter update, as was the case with the last one, which brought "a positive reaction from fans."
