Dead By Daylight Is Changing How Design Previews Work To Get Players Closer To Development
The most recent Design Preview is leading to new plans for The Trickster.
When games solicit feedback from players, it's often hard for players to see that feedback being actioned. Sometimes updates come months later and players can see their feedback iomplemented then, but in those months in between it can seem like no one is listening. Dead By Daylight frequently solicits feedback via their "Design Preview" system. Based on the results of last year's Design Preview, Behaviour Interactive feels the same way.
What are they doing, then? They are changing the way Design Previews work. Sure, the initial step of gathering feedback via short surveys will stay. However, Behaviour will be changing what they do with that feedback. First, the team will examine feedback from the perspective of both Survivors and Killers in the game. Second, and perhaps more importantly, within two weeks of a Design Preview, the team will share an early look at some interesting points they’ve drawn from your feedback, while also giving an idea of how the team plans to use it.
The idea is to bring players closer to the development process. That said, development can be tricky and tends to change along the way. Timelines and ideas could certainly still change between the Design Preview review and actual implementation.
In fact, the team is starting the process by talking about changes planned for The Trickster Killer. While Behaviour isn't revealing the entire plan yet, that's coming soon, they do reveal that player feedback has already changed the direction of planned changes. Instead of simply reverting back some recent changes players weren't happy with, the team will instead be leaning into his theming and changing things to reward experienced and new players alike.
Expect news on The Skull Merchant soon, too.
