DCUO Development Update 2023 Teases New Details For Upcoming Episode 45, Emote System, And Seasonal Events
Players will be traveling to heart of Dakota City to solve why heroes and villains are disappearing.
2022 was an eventful time for DC Universe Online players, from the recent "Episode 44: The Sins of Black Adam" to the first-ever 6-person Survival Mode. Dimensional Ink Games aim to keep that stride of content in 2023, starting with new seasonal events and "Episode 45: Shock to the System," with an emote system coming after.
Dimensional teased the upcoming content for 2023 in a recent Development Update on their website. There, you can find a tentative infographic that details the quarterly cycle of their future patches, yet the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Episode 47 launch dates are still a mystery.
The annual "Attack of the Anti-Monitor" anniversary event will start the year for DCUO, followed by seasonal events "Love Conquers All" in February and "Mister Mxyzptlk's Mischief" in March with new rewards. The Shazam ally released last week won't be the final one players will see this quarter; Dimensional says they'll release "at least one more ally."
Releasing in Spring 2023, Shock to the System will send players to the heart of Dakota City to figure out why heroes and villains are disappearing. A sinister, otherworldly force has moved into the area, serving as the primary threat players will face. Gameplay-wise, there will be open-world missions, world bosses, DC and Milestone characters, new rewards, and a storyline written by acclaimed comic book writer Leon Chills.
Sometime in Q2 2023, the emote system will be available. So far, we know players will be able to collect new emotes and animations to express themselves better in-game. More details on it will come in future months, alongside the next-gen console release due later in the year.
You can learn more about all the upcoming 2023 content on the DCUO website!

They aren't giving up on early access development, but this can't be good in the long-term for the title.
At least there's still a card game in the MMORPG itself...right?
