DayZ’s Base Game Is Getting Some Impressive Improvements Prior To The Launch Of The Frostline Expansion
Prepare to have even more control over the weather on your servers.
When DayZ’s Frostline expansion finally arrives, it will introduce a new snowy area to the game, complete with new snowfall effects and realistic snow physics – like it melting when there’s a fire nearby. It will also feature a unique skybox for Sakhal designed to enhance its atmosphere.
Before the expansion launches, however, the devs are making updates to the base game in patch 1.26. This update is available to everyone and is not part of paid DLC. Among these changes are tools that will grant the devs and community server owners more control over winter elements. Using the config system, server owners will have full control over fog using a new script API. Fog will even impact sky visibility, so things can be made gloomier if they like.
In addition to weather control, the 1.26 update will also increase the view distance in the game. This is something players will be able to control on the client side. More detailed information on what players can expect from the update and Frostline is available on the survival game’s Steam page.
I've included the snow melting video below, but there are a slew of videos on the official YouTube channel of all the small pieces in action.
