Daybreak Games Raise Over $85K For Children’s Charities
The fundraising was part of the annual Extra Life event.
As happens whenever the holiday season rolls around, gamers and game developers alike take part in the annual Extra Life charity event, raising money for hospitals associated with the Children’s Miracle Network. The funds raised help with everything from the necessities – like diapers and bandages – to fun stuff, such as crayons, games, and popsicles.
This year, Daybreak Games took part in the event, helping to raise more than $85,000. Daybreak’s San Diego studios, Darkpaw Games and Rogue Planet Games, raised $40,000 of that for the California-based Rady Children’s Hospital. This is the 6th largest children’s hospital in the US, consisting of around 900 doctors, over 1,400 nurses, and even 40 dogs as part of the PetSmart Paws for Hope canine therapy program. The hospital goes through nearly 880,000 diapers, 280,000 bandages, nearly 10,000 crayons, and more every year while treating kids, so the money will be put to good use.
As for the other $45,000 raised, this was done by Daybreak’s other studios – Dimensional Ink Games in Austin, TX and Standing Stone Games in Boston, MA. This money will go to their local hospitals.
With this year’s round of fundraising, Daybreak has contributed over $100M to Extra Life and the Children’s Miracle Network since 2008. That’s with the help of players and viewers, of course.
