Creators Can Now Build In MapleStory Worlds As Soft Launch Arrives, Complete With Ways To Get Financial Support
Over 30 million MapleStory assets available and advanced LUA options are unlocked.
Want to create new games? Well there's now another new games creation platform on the block. NEXON has "soft launched" MapleStory Worlds in both North and South America. The launch was announced last month and currently is only available on PC, but long-term plans involve bringing the platform to mobile devices in the future.
Worried you don't have the game-creating chops to get started? Don't worry. Building your own titles can be as simple as dragging and dropping assets and features into your new world. If you are a bit more knowledgeable, advanced LUA scripting options are also available. Custom avatars and designing unique items is even an option.
All games support multiplayer options, chat, friends lists, and more social features.
Want to get paid for your work? There's kind of an option for that, but not in the same way you can monetize Roblox creations.
First, MapleJam '24 is on. This is more of a "contest" than straight monetization of your game, though. Sign up between November 6th and December 6th to create a world and submit it. The top 5 teams will receive $2000 and the top 50 entries will each get $100. Entries will be judged on how uniquely they utilize MapleStory assets, the core gameplay loop, stability, and a few additional criteria.
For some more "long-term" financial support, NEXON is offering creators a chance for funding and support through their "Creator Circle." This is more of an advanced option, though. You'll really need to create a compelling world and have an in-depth plan for future updates and player acquisition. If you meet the requirements, you'll be eligible for $3500 a month in support, promotional support, technical support, and even development assistance from the MapleStory Worlds team.
