Concord, PlayStation's Hero Shooter, Will Start Head Start Tomorrow And Despite Beta Reviews, They Kept The Box Price
Putting a box price on a typically F2P genre is certainly a choice.
Launching a new hero shooter is a risky proposition from the start. Deciding to trap yours behind a box fee is just downright silly. Almost all of your competition is available as a F2P game. Concord is going to try and do exactly that when head start kicks off tomorrow ahead of a full launch on August 23rd.
Sony's hero shooter already had a very rocky open beta test on the PlayStation 5 and PC. That's not to say that the combat was bad or anything, in fact it was quite good. The aesthetic of the game and the characters created by Firewalk Studios are fine, but they may not be everyone's cup of tea. However, open beta never surpassed 2.4K players on Steam. While we don't have numbers for PlayStation player counts, we can't image Sony being happy with those numbers.
The number one piece of feedback given by players was that Concord needed to be F2P. The game was following in the exact season and cosmetic plan "games as a service" structure as their competitors, but they were locking the game behind, at minimum, a $40 box fee.
If you're one of the ones that pre-ordered the game, your head start kicks off tomorrow and here are the times for each region of the globe.
Prediction: Concord will go F2P rather quickly. I'm pretty sure, based on open beta feedback, it will have to do so.
