When Microsoft laid off nearly 2,000 employees back in January, a substantial portion of them were Blizzard staff. At the time, there was some speculation as to whether author Christie Golden was among those. A beloved fixture at Blizzard, Christie was part of the company’s Story & Franchise development team and the author of many fans’ favorite novels.

When the layoffs were announced, we reached out to Christie to try to confirm the rumor we heard that she was among those impacted, but did not receive a reply. As of yesterday, we know that she was, in fact, among those let go.

She shared a letter on her Twitter account explaining what she’s been going through. As you can see, it’s completely understandable that she elected to not talk about things for a while, as she lost her nephew only a day after being laid off. Taking the time for herself and her family is obviously more important than answering notes from games press.

There is good news in her letter, however. First, she’s not unwilling to work with Blizzard again, should the opportunity arise. Second, while that may or may not happen, she does have other projects in the hopper and is keeping an eye open for others. As she puts it, she’s considering game consulting or even joining a team full-time, provided they’re “the right Triple P combo – Place, People, and Projects”. So, fans can probably look forward to new things from her in the future.
