It’s been nine months since Chris Metzen took on the role of Creative Advisor on the Warcraft team and effectively returned to Blizzard. Now, he’s taking on an even bigger role. Today, Blizzard announced that Metzen has taken on the role of Executive Creative Director of the Warcraft universe.

It should be noted that when the developer announced Metzen taking on the role of Creative Advisor, they stated that he would focus on the MMORPG starting out, but that his role would expand to other projects across the IP. Based on his new title, this seems to hold true. That means we should see Metzen’s stamp not only on World of Warcraft, but also single-player content, and whatever new projects they come up with.

We don’t know what those projects might be. Your guess is as good as ours, so start speculating. Whatever it is, Metzen is qualified to lead it up, having been the Senior Vice President of Story and Franchise Development at Blizzard before he originally left the company.

Note: Activision Blizzard has been sued by California’s Civil Rights Department, alleging violations of California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act and Equal Pay Act. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about the alleged violations within his company. These allegations have all been denied by Activision Blizzard and the company points to additional diversity and inclusion training as past examples of taking the accusations seriously at the time they were made.
