CCP Announces Excel Integration For Eve Online At Fanfest – Among Other Things
It has truly ascended to achieve its final form as Spreadsheets: The MMO.
Today, CCP Games kicked off the annual EVE Online Fanfest Event in Reykjavik, Iceland, bringing players from all around the world together in one place for a celebration of their favorite space MMO, lots of news, and just a generally smashing good time. (We won't get into that last part though.) CCP set things in motion today with a look at what’s to come. They showed off a new content roadmap, "consequential storytelling" and plenty of player experience enhancements – one of which involves Excel...yes...the spreadsheet program. There's even a new expansion on the way. That's not too much of a surprise. We've lost count of the number of expansions over the game's nineteen years in action.
Of course, you might think the big news here would be the new story arcs featuring each of the game’s four different empires and new story events – or the expansion that brings all that together. And that certainly is a pretty huge deal. After all, players will now know more about their home empires and have more power to shape the game’s universe. There's even a new empire trailer – this time featuring the Caldari state you can watch below.
But, let's be honest. Eve Online has always been a game about spreadsheets. So, it might seem a little odd that for nearly two decades, there’s not been a quick and easy way to make your spreadsheet game even spreadsheet-ier. That’s all changing now, though, because CCP has decided to integrate Microsoft Excel with Eve Online. So players can now export their data directly from the game into the software. Oh! And something else the game is finally getting after nineteen years...a localized Spanish client. That’s definitely one of those, "it's about time," things.
