You Can Now Preview Llama Contents In Fortnite: Save The World
Last summer, Valve changed how loot boxes in Dota 2 operated in the Netherlands, allowing Dutch players to "preview" the contents of their next box before purchasing. On the surface, that might seem like an improvement, but we reasoned that it was a pretty meaningless change overall. That's because the contents of the next loot box would still be unknown, thus merely postponing the randomness. There was no way to "cancel" your next loot box, meaning that, you'd have to buy that poor one to get to the next one -- which might also be disappointing.
Epic Games is now offering a similar preview with its paid loot boxes in Fortnite: Save the World. Now, when you examine an "X-Ray" Llama (formerly V-Buck Llama) in the shop, you'll get a preview telling you what items it contains before you buy. The big difference between this and Valve's approach in Dota 2 is that your guaranteed contents change every day. So if you don't like what's coming down the pipe next, you can wait a day and buy your llama then. That will reveal the next llama's contents, which you can buy immediately or wait, and so the cycle continues.
Epic isn't making any changes to the price of llamas, and as a bonus to existing players, is handing out five free Llama Upgrade Tokens. It's also made a number of improvements to how llamas and loot in Save the World operate over the past year, including dupe prevention and the ability to obtain items without buying llamas. It's all laid out in today's blog post on the Fortnite site.
