Bungie Reveals Destiny 2's (Underwhelming) 2023 State Of The Game
Players are not thrilled with the lackluster future of their favorite action MMO.
The state of Destiny 2 is certainly questionable at the moment.
Director Joe Blackburn released the 2023 State of the Game, providing comprehensive updates on various aspects of the shooter. For starters, Crucible maps will be fewer due to a focus on Exotic missions, seasonal activities, and new destinations. Also, the new Vex network map, Multiplex, was introduced, compiling the Infinite Forest.
There’s two new modes as well, Checkmate and Relic, altering gunplay dynamics and utilizing past raid/seasonal relics for combat. Going forward, Vanguard medals will enhance strikes, and there’s better rewards for Nightfalls. Furthermore, the Cathedral of Scars vaulted map has been reintroduced, so there’s new enemies and Gambit will be removed as a mandatory weekly activity.
Moreover, Bungie acknowledged the community's feedback regarding ritual armor, and revealed a new Trials set. They also said game security measures were strengthened, including legal actions against cheatmakers. Bungie pointed out efforts to enhance game stability too, spanning upcoming seasons and involving technical improvements. They promised increased creative freedom when it comes to narrative and gameplay in seasons 22 and 23.
As for improvements, players will be able to pin favorite shaders, ornaments, and emotes, while Stasis aspects and fragments transition to the vendor system. Further enhancements include resource tab explanations, Iron Banner pursuits, ritual rank-up improvements, new Strand aspects, exotic armor reworks, and additional weapon subfamilies. And then there’s weapon tuning, which aims to reduce variance and engagement range.
In the future, the upcoming season will connect seasons 20-23, culminating in a climactic conclusion called “The Final Shape.” That being said, no power cap increase is planned for season 22. Finally, a new system called "Pathfinder" will replace ritual bounties to enhance progression, and a Fireteam Finder launches in season 23 to facilitate group play. More details on much of the new stuff will be shared during the upcoming planned showcase.
