Bungie Could Be Prepping Destiny For Free-To-Play
UPDATE: Bungie has confirmed that Destiny is not going free-to-play.
PlayStation Insider has noticed some unusual shenanigans related to Bungie's AAA shooter RPG Destiny that could be an indication that the developer is prepping the game for a free-to-play move.
Destiny's base versions are no longer for sale or download on the Sony or Microsoft stores, though the base game is listed as "Free." With an expansion and DLCs already out in the wild, another expansion (Rise of Iron) on the way before the end of the year, and Destiny 2 slated for launch next year, free-to-play might be a good way to get more people into the IP and snag more sales of upcoming products.
It wouldn't be unlike what ArenaNet did with Guild Wars 2, making the base game free-to-play just before the Heart of Thorns expansion came out. There's a comparable amount of stuff to do in Destiny's base game, making it a good choice for free-to-play and priming the pump for the next wave of expansions.
