Bungie Makes Destiny 2's Transmog System A Little Simpler, And Less Time-Gated
Players took an instant dislike to Destiny 2's Armor Synthesis, a.k.a. its transmog system, as soon as it was announced. In brief, there was a complex series of resources you needed, and a cap on acquiring them a) existed and b) was nearly impossible to reach, even for dedicated players because one of the currencies was time-gated -- unless you shelled out real money, of course.
In its blog post from last week, Bungie said that "we have been monitoring reception and behavior around our new Armor Synthesis system," which should have taken all of five minutes. As a result of listening to that nuanced feedback from players, it will be making a change to Armor Synthesis for the next season. At the start of Season 15, one of the three currencies, Synthstrand, will leave the game, and you'll instead be able to purchase its equivalent for 10,000 Glimmer. The limits are still in place, but at least time-gated Synthstrand won't be a hindrance any more.
It's still a rather complicated system overall -- you need to purchase a bounty quest with Glimmer and then complete that quest to unlock the ability to morph a piece of armor -- especially when most games make the process much simpler. Still, it's nice to see that Bungie is at least willing to make a quick change to one pain point of the system, and maybe more can be changed if the system is still not meeting players' needs.
