Other Sony live service titles will get to benefit from Bungie's experience, at least that's the idea.

Sony Bungie Purchase

One of the leading factors, at least according to Sony, for Sony's purchase of Bungie back in 2022 was the perceived expertise that Bungie had in running live service games and in building online communities. Now how well you personally think the Destiny 2 creators achieve both of those goals is certainly a subject for debate, but as Sony continues to find more opportunities for live service offerings, it looks like the company still thinks highly of that skill set. This is despite claims of mismanagement and recent layoffs.

To get the ball rolling, Bungie's Creative Studios is headed to PlayStation where they'll form the basis for a new creative studio under Sony. The new team will be involved in all live service offerings coming from Sony, so they will still continue to assist with both Destiny 2 and Marathon, but those won't be the only projects they'll be working on.

Senior Creative Director Bridget O'Neill took to LinkedIn to announce the move and their new title of "Senior Director of Creative at PlayStation Studios."

"Live service is hard and comes with a unique set of challenges, so with PlayStation and Bungie working together we will be able to give a huge jumpstart on development for new games as they enter the competitive market," says O'Neill.

Now we wait to see how much of a benefit Sony gets out of one of the primary reasons they bought Bungie.
