Bug Causes Items To Disappear From World Of Warcraft Guild Banks
A technical update intended to support cross-realm guilds is to blame.
Normally, when a World of Warcraft (or any MMORPG) player puts something in their guild bank, they expect it to stay there – barring another guild member stealing it. What they don’t expect is for the item to disappear on its own. But that’s what’s been happening.
Recently, a community manager posted on the WoW forums explaining that a week or so after patch 11.0.2 launched players began reporting items missing from their guild banks. After investigating, the devs realized that an update implemented to support cross-realm guilds resulted in a bug causing a maintenance process to remove some items. While some of these were related to professions from earlier expansions, there were other items lost.
Since then, the devs have been working to identify lost items in order to return them to affected guilds. However, some items will not be able to be restored as some data was lost. Still, something is better than none.
