Blue Protocol Confirmed As Free-To-Play In Livestream
As one game leaves free-to-play, another arrives. We've had our suspicions regarding Blue Protocol for some time now, but have never had a confirmation from Bandai Namco that it would be free-to-play. That changed during a livestream yesterday -- assuming that the translation on a fan site is accurate.
The livestream video in question is embedded below, and it's two hours of developers showcasing and talking about the game. The bad news, at least for monolingual speakers like myself, is that it's all in Japanese. The good news, though, is that community website Blue Protocol DB has translated the important points of the livestream, such as the new class skill tree, weapon progression, class resources, and how to apply for the Japanese closed beta test, especially if you're not a monolingual speaker like myself.
The most important question of them all, at least for MMOBomb, came during a Q&A session, where someone asked about the "pay scheme" of the game. The response was:
"Free To Play with a season pass and limited items (possibly limited time cosmetics)."
So, assuming that translation is correct, there's the long-awaited confirmation that Blue Protocol will be free-to-play. We don't quite have confirmation yet that it will be coming to the West, though recent job postings seem to indicate that's the case. All in all, it's a bit of a weird way to make announcements of this magnitude -- through job postings and livestreams -- but if the game is good, players will likely be forgiving.
