overwatch 2 matchmaking

When it comes to matchmaking issues in Overwatch 2, "We're working on it and it's getting better" is not enough. That’s why the game’s director laid out some stats and graphs along with details regarding where the system is failing as well as what the plans are for the future.

In a post on the official website titled “Director’s Take – Making A Great Match,” Aaron Keller from Blizzard Entertainment said changes were made to the system that significantly brought down the skill gap between players. He provided graphs as proof, highlighting recent spikes where people were up against others ten ranked divisions above them.

While skill gap cannot be completely avoided due to players grouping up, teams will be able to choose shorter queue times for casual game modes but wait a little longer for more even matches when playing competitively. Keller said Overwatch 2’s matchmaker now sorts together parties with a similar ranking difference between members, following the most recent game patch.

“We'll be collecting a lot of data this week and listening to all of you as well,” he concluded. Check out the full post, including the graphs.

Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company – and performed some himself – and shielded the perpetrators from consequences.
