Blizzard’s New Mobile Game Is Kinda Minion Masters With Warcraft Characters
We're not sure what – if anything – you were expecting, but this may not be it.
Today, Blizzard revealed the next game under the Warcraft umbrella. If you were expecting an MMO (You probably never should.) you were definitely wrong. If you guess and RTS, you're closer, but we’re not talking about a classic RTS. Warcraft Arclight Rumble is a cuter, simpler RTS.
In Arclight Rumble, players will use virtual mini-figures of various well-known Warcraft characters in combat. They'll collect them and use them to build armies that can then be used in matches against AI or in multiplayer. (There’s even co-op.) Also, unlike the old-school Warcraft RTS games, this one features lanes instead of a sprawling map. Although, there are big maps, they're just broken into sections containing five battles, all of which need to be beaten to open the next section. Players also only spend resources on miniatures. Units and buildings aren’t a factor.
This being a mobile game, players also won't have to manage the movement of their miniatures too heavily as they're mostly independent after being summoned. There are exceptions, but for the most part, they'll just be making their way down the lane from the player's base (or other areas once they’ve been captured) to the enemy’s side – killing whatever they need to along the way.
Warcraft fans can get an idea of what the game is like from today's reveal video. If you’d like a bit more information, there’s also a fairly in-depth hands-on on Gamespot that’s worth checking out.
