Blizzard Is Hiring A Lead Content Designer For An Unannounced Game Using An Existing Blizzard IP
Requirements include proficiency with single-player and "shared world" games, as well as RPGs.
Blizzard would appear to have more than just one unannounced game in development.
A few weeks ago, we learned about a survival game that's in the works, which I thought was pseudo-announced so that people wouldn't crawl through job listings to discover it ahead of the developer wanting to reveal it.
That doesn't appear to have been the case, as MMOs.com has noticed a job posting for a "Lead Content Designer -- Unannounced Project" that doesn't seem to be connected to the previously mentioned survival game. That title is based on a new IP, while this one is looking for someone to "Champion a clear vision for mechanically and narratively interesting missions within an established Blizzard IP."
The job posting also goes on to say that Blizzard is looking for someone with "Demonstrated ability to craft single player missions, quests, stories, characters, and events within game development toolsets" but also "Experience creating quests, points of interest, and characters within a shared world." Applicants are also encouraged to have "Experience creating and running pen and paper RPG campaigns, and/or live-action RPGs" and "A love of RPG games (tabletop or computer)."
Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company – and performed some himself – and shielded the perpetrators from consequences.
The requirements for someone to have experience with both "single player" and "shared world" games has us scratching our heads a bit, but the rest of the requirements lean heavily toward the new game being an RPG. It's worth noting that Blizzard doesn't have a AAA 3-D single-player RPG like Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, or Witcher 3 in its portfolio, so this could be a call for something in that vein. Setting a game like that in the Warcraft or Overwatch universe could be a big deal, but it seems like we'll have to wait a while until Blizzard is ready to officially reveal the new project.
