No more "2" in the sequel's title and there's still a few questions outstanding on this one.

Whelp, there's no more "2" in the name of ArcheAge's follow-up title. Instead of being known as "ArcheAge 2," today's Sony State of Play presentation revealed that XL Games and Kakao Games are calling their next MMORPG ArcheAge Chronicles instead.

Showing off the goods in a video reveal, ArcheAge Chronicles looks pretty so far, but the Unreal Engine 5 will do that to a game. Interestingly, the official announcement bills the game as an "online action RPG" rather than an "MMO," something we've seen New World do lately. However, ArcheAge Chronicles will still feature a persistent world, player housing, a player driven economy, a "deep" narrative, and "social" features.

"We are incredibly excited to unveil 'ArcheAge Chronicles' to the world," said Jake Song, CEO of XLGAMES. "This new title represents our vision of combining the expansive, immersive elements of an MMO with the dynamic, engaging gameplay of an Online Action RPG. We can't wait for players to experience the next chapter of the ArcheAge universe."

ArcheAge Chronicles will launch in 2025 on PC (Steam and Epic Games), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and more details on features and beta testing is forthcoming. Interestingly, the game's Steam page does not contain the "F2P" tags, so while the original ArcheAge was free, maybe the follow-up will not be? The Steam page does say that Chronicles is the "next evolution of the MMORPG genre" though, so I'm sure that'll be 100% true. Right?
