UPDATE: Rumor: Another One Bites The Dust As Ubisoft’s Roller Champions Will Soon Be Canceled, Just MONTHS After Launch
Well, that fun was while it lasted.
The free-to-play, roller skating game Roller Champions will be canceled after season 3 despite their very recent launch in May 2022. This is the latest Ubisoft closing rumor coming coutesy of Jeff Grubb on the latest XBox Era Podcast. Since the game’s launch it has received several seasons of content and is even tracking better than Hyper Scape–yet another one of Ubisoft’s canceled titles.
Hyper Scape was another free-to-play title, but a 100-player battle royale FPS set in the future. This game launched in July 2020 and shut down in April 2022. In addition, Ubisoft has also recently canceled their plans for a battle royale-styled Ghost Recon Frontline game.
At this rate, Ubisoft is building an unreliable narrative. Games are being canceled before they come out of the gate, are forgotten about entirely until they randomly have a sudden release date, or are released only to be canceled shortly after. Hopefully the company sorts out these issues soon, or else it will be difficult to have any sort of credibility.
UPDATE: The Roller Champions team took to Twiter to say that the game wasn't going anywhere and was being "fully supported" by Ubisoft. The team did advise though that content would be delayed as the "Disco Fever" event is extended to allow the team to focus on the annoying issues players have brought up regarding matchmaking and other quality of life items.
Hello Champions! Let’s clear it out of the way first, Roller Champions isn’t getting cancelled, and Ubisoft fully supports it.
You can rest assured we’ll keep you updated as we roll forward.
