Amazon To Lay Off 9,000 Employees, Some Of Which Work At Twitch
“This was a difficult decision, but one that we think is best for the company long term."
Amazon is laying off 9,000 employees, some of which hold positions at Twitch.
"I'm writing to share that we intend to eliminate about 9,000 more positions in the next few weeks—mostly in AWS, PXT, advertising, and Twitch,” wrote CEO Andy Jassy in a statement sent to employees. “This was a difficult decision, but one that we think is best for the company long term."
The reasoning given was that the company basically hired many more people than necessary.
"Given the uncertain economy in which we reside, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount," he added.
These particular jobs will be eliminated by the end of the month, and they follow 18,000 others that were cut last January.
Jassy has only been CEO for a week after former head Emmett Shear resigned on March 16. He co-founded the platform when it was still Justin.tv.

Outsourcing is reportedly also a key area of contention.
The sizable update will bring a lot of things players have been asking for.
