Over the weekend, a hacker group by the name of NullBulge claims they have been able to grab over a terabyte of files and chat logs from a Disney Slack with the help of an "insider collaborator" who eventually kicked them out after getting cold feet. While Disney has yet to confirm the leak of chats, screen shots, files, and more, information from the files has started to appear online. This includes a rumored sequel to shooter Aliens Fireteam Elite.

Releasing three years ago, Aliens Fireteam Elite was developed by Cold Iron Studios and is a pretty typical third-person, cooperative, survival game set in a world dominated by various Xenomorphs from film and literature. It did ok. It isn't a game we get to write about a lot here as updates are few and far between, but it still sees a few hundred players on Steam each day, saying nothing of the title's console audience.

I kind of enjoyed the game but, due to having few updates, it lost its appeal pretty quickly, even though I love the franchise. Apparently, if the leak is to be believed, the game is set to receive a sequel in Q3 of 2025. If you don't want to swim through the massive amounts of data in the alleged Disney leak, thanks to reddit user firemonkey11 you can jump straight to the Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 content.

While the slides bear the name "Project Macondo", it's readily apparent what the real deal is here. Not only do pictures of xenomorphs give the IP away, but slides also mention "AFE" when making comparisons to the new game.

It seems Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 is still going to hold on to the "co-op" version of the original with the slides stating you can take on a new "epic" story campaign with 2 friends or AI. The sequel will offer up multiple scenarios and adds a new "Annihilation Mode", a horde mode mixed with some objective-based gameplay. You can get even more details about this mode and some specific missions (if you're ok with spoilers) in a second reddit post from firemonkey11.

Surprisingly, Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 could be deviating from the original version in a few key ways if the leaks are accurate. First, characters will be more defined and won't have the "character creation" aspect seen in the original. Plans range for 3-5 "DAGGER Characters", each with their own pre-defined kit of abilities. Some of these seem odd (axe throwing?), but maybe there's a skill system that would be in play. Second, weapons seem far more limited, at least in the initial plan revealed in the slides, with only 13 available weapons. Finally, while there are no plans for monetization, gacha, or in-game ads, chat will also be removed from the sequel.

I'm actually curious, but I don't know how I feel about the kind of "hero shooter" direction some of the documents seem to indicate the game is moving in. We'll have to see what, if anything, actually comes from the rumors.

Here's a few of the slides and our First Look at the original game. We've also reached out to Cold Iron Studios for a comment and will update this piece should we hear back from them.
