What's Your Ship's Name? After A Short Delay, Sea Of Thieves Season 7 Finally Launches Across Xbox And PC Today
It's the captain's time to shine.
Within a week of its initial release date on July 21, developer Rare delayed Sea of Thieves' Season 7 to give it some more polish and pushed the date to August 4. Now, without any last-minute hiccups, Rare has released the new season with the long-awaited Captaincy Update across Xbox and PC platforms.
What was once the first post-launch patch to Sea of Thieves when it launched in 2018, the Captaincy Update finally sees the light of day and allows players to buy, customize, and captain their ships while completing newly-implemented milestones and achievements. The biggest highlight is naming your vessel that sails the seven seas and styling up the captain's quarters with eye-catching Trinkets discovered across your voyage.
Season 7 also debuts new seasonal rewards that can be unlocked by climbing through 100 levels of Renown, each granting players gold, cosmetics, Doubloons, or even Ancient Coins. Additionally, a new time-limited Adventure is on the horizon and, according to the devs, will happen roughly every month and lasts for a minimum of two weeks. Each Adventure will introduce unique challenges, characters to meet, and cosmetics to loot.
Lastly, Plunder Pass makes a return this season with summer-themed cosmetics. From the Beachcomber's Bounty ship to an islander-styled Baleful Bloom Costume, players can gain these exclusive rewards by purchasing Plunder Pass and unlocking them through raising Renown.
