Activision “You Don’t Have Phones?” Blizzard Has Plans For New Mobile Warcraft Content
Several mobile Warcraft Games have been in development.
Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company – and performed some himself – and shielded the perpetrators from consequences.
You may be surprised by this – although we probably shouldn’t be. Mobile Warcraft content is coming, and it’s very possible we’re talking about a game. The news on the “content” dropped as part of Blizzard’s Q4 2021 report, in which they state that the company is “planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022”, including “getting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players' hands”. Do note that the statement doesn’t say "World of" Warcraft.
According to a report on WoW Head, the company has been teasing mobile content for a while, going as far back as 2020, when they revealed several mobile Warcraft games in advanced stages of development. Last year’s Q2 reports stated that two were entering testing.
It should come as no surprise that Activision Blizzard, which also owns mobile game developer King, would want to lean into more mobile games. Of course, the question is how fans will feel about it. Based on the reaction of the Blizzard fanbase when mobile Diablo was announced, it could get pretty rocky. Although, I don’t think any World of Warcraft fans would complain about apps that give them more ways to interact with the MMO.
